Police departments have issued warnings; home owners have been creeped out by folks lurking on their property. Even the game itself begins with a warning to pay attention to your surroundings, a warning it’s impossible when there’s a Pikachu to catch to heed! All of which amounts to aggravation for everyone else. AR stands for "augmented reality," which is a fancy way of describing how Pokemon Go lets you see the tiny animals as though they're in the real world. It uses your phone's camera to show you what's on the phone, then digitally puts the Pokemon on top. Virtual reality is a somewhat different thought.

In the original Pokemon games, sex was rare and largely irrelevant: It just meant a Pokemon named Nidoran could transform into two different versions. It appears to be the same here. Pat the Pokeball button at the bottom of the display, then select a duplicate Pokemon and hit Transfer. The candy will be of the same kind as the Pokemon you trade in. (And if Soylent Green is made of individuals, does that mean...)

The programmer of Pokemon Go -- Niantic -- made a previous game called Ingress that was also about discovering cool things hiding in the real world.

You can join a team after reaching level 5, a milestone you'll hit by catching Pokemon. You merely need to locate a gym, and it'll prompt you to join a team. The gyms are those tall gold and silver towers you can see on your own map. No exercise required -- except walking there. Gyms are where you are able to battle your Pokemon against other team's Pokemon.

As long as you can stay the hell away from the in-game purchase display. Coins can purchase you items that power up your Pokemon, but you could just walk past lots of PokeStops to get items, and perhaps you'll have the capacity to get some coins by fighting at gyms.

Inside that white circle is a green circle that expands and contracts. Seemingly, when the green circle is at its smallest, that is the greatest time to flick your Pokeball at your quarry (though we've heard contradictory theories). Failing that, you could just do what I do and flick at random.

The Pokemon you see in the game differ based on your own location and geography. For example, in San Francisco, we've found a lot of Zubats. Journey 45 minutes south of Mountain View and you'll find a lot of Pidgey, Paras, and Rattata. You can expect to find different Pokemon near a body of water, for instance, then in a small midwest town.

Funny thing about looking at a phone while you are walking across the road: You can die. So perhaps lay off the booze. Here's what the Pokemon Go web site says: "For safety's sake, never play Pokemon GO when you are on your bike, driving a car, riding a hoverboard, or anything else where you should be paying attention, and of course never wander away from your parents or your group to catch a Pokemon."

It's possible for you to see how many gyms you control in the "Store" area of the game. It's possible for you to press the shield icon once every 24 hours to claim coins that enable you to purchase in-game items. Make sure to press this button after you have claimed a group of gyms to optimize your cash flow.

It's probably the constant server issues. They are bad! If you see a spinning load symbol in the upper left corner of the screen that doesn't go away within 30 seconds, you should probably push-close the whole app and start it again. If you caught a Pokemon, you'd still have it later. (On iPhone, double tap the home button, then swipe up on Pokemon Go.

Those are PokeStops. Approach one, and when you get close the cube should morph into a whirling disk. Tap on it then flicks your finger across the disk in the center of the display that pops up to send that disc spinning. Normally, you'll get things which can assist you to catch more Pokemon.

To get them to fight for you, obviously! (No, that doesn't make it better.) You're capturing and raising animals to fight for your amusement, and possibly getting them to evolve into more powerful ones. Here is a paper that argues that Pokemon is not just slaves, though.

At that point, you can drop a Pokemon on the gym and claim it for your team. If your team already holds the gym, you can battle its Pokemon to raise the "prestige" of the gym. Once stature is high enough, you can add a Pokemon to help it become more challenging for the other team to capture.

So why are these monsters so rare? Most of this list checks out; in the Pokémon games, Mewtwo, and each mythical bird are only located in particular places, while Mew is historically among the toughest monsters to find and capture. As for Ditto, nonetheless, although the Ordinary-kind isn't classified as a mythical, it can be tough to find in many of the traditional games. That's due in part to its unique abilities that are breeding; the Pokémon can mimic and breed with virtually any other to reproduce Pokémon. As for where to find them, it is still impossible to say. Pokémon GO PokéStop in Smithtown NSW 2440 requires players to travel around the world to find all secrets and its concealed monsters, and with the game still not out in Japan, among other places, buffs may have to continue trying to find a long time before finding any of these rarities. Ripley's Believe It Or Not is hosting a competition for players' coolest finds, so maybe the allure of $5,000 could tempt these unseen Pokémon out of concealment.
